Check-in

Things are still moving along well in kindergarten and it's amazing how much progress the kids have made in the past few weeks!  They are able to self-regulate and work independently (and quietly!) as I work with small groups, they have learned all of our zillion procedures and routines and rarely forget them, and they really take pride in their kindergarten work!  They work so hard and I'm excited to see how much more they grow in the next eight months!

I also want to take a moment to explain why I am unable to update pictures more than every few weeks.  When the kids are working, I'm working with them (usually in small-groups, but sometimes with the whole group or individually) so I don't have many opportunities to go around and take pictures.  In order to take pictures I have to STOP working with the kids, which is a very difficult thing to do!!  So please bear with me as I try to strike a delicate balance between taking pictures of them working to share with you and dedicating all of my precious time with them to actually working with them.  I need to just hire a photographer, I think. ;)

Back to our updates, we offically started our Daily Five groups this week, where each child meets in a small group with myself and my assistant as well as practices reading to self, working with words, and listening (and responding) to reading. The kids did SPECTACULAR with this!! In other news, our focus was the letter Cc (its name, sounds, and proper formation), the word "like", color words, and numbers 5 and 6. Here is this week's newsletter (a hard copy was also sent home Friday) for more information about what we're currently learning! :)
