Pictures of us working and learning!

Here are some pictures of our class over the past few weeks.  We have been working hard on learning how to work together as a team in small groups but also independently.  Each day we break into small groups for math and reading, so it's imperative that the students are able to stay on-task when I'm working with other students.  Each group meets with either Mrs. Snyder (one of our wonderful assistants), Mrs. Schumaker (another one of our wonderful assistants), or me every single day.  They also do independent practice each day, too.  Here is a glimpse into our small groups during math and language arts time! :)

Week one wrap-up!

Well, we did it!  We all survived our first week in kindergarten! :)  We also got a new student yesterday which brings our total number of students to 25...and still quite a few more boys than girls.  We are all exhausted and I'm sure the kids' brains are just swimming with all of the new things they've learned and been exposed to this week.  Kindergarten in this day and age can be daunting at first!  We are blessed to have two teaching assistants that take turns helping out in our room--Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Schumacher.  They are tremendously helpful and we appreciate them so much already! :)
Here is this week's newsletter (a hard copy was also sent home Friday).

Thank you all SO MUCH for sharing your children with me this year.  I have loved spending my days with them this week and look forward to the next nine months with them! :)

Wow, what a turnout...THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I was THRILLED to see so many of you at the back-to-school night yesterday!  Thank you all SO much for coming!  If you weren't able to make it I will send all of the forms home with your child on the first day of school or you can download many of them right here on the blog.   If you were there and have thought of more questions now that you've hopefully had a chance to read through and digest the class information, please don't hesitate to contact me.
I forgot to go through the student binders with you, and I sincerely apologize!  There is information about them under "binders" in the ABC's of Mrs. Leming's Kindergarten handout, but basically I ask that you please go through your child's binder each night and return it to school daily.  Please check and review the behavior report each day, take out any papers to be left at home, and fill out and return any papers that need returned.  It's pretty self-explanatory, but very important for you and your child to do!
I am so excited to begin our year together, and I certainly hope your child gets more sleep on the night before school starts than I do.  I am always up all night with giddiness and a bit of nerves...the first day of school is always so fresh and exciting but a bit overwhelming for all of us.  I am confident that it will be a wonderful year in kindergarten! :)

Back to School Night...I hope to see you there!!

The Southside Back-to-School Night is Thursday, August 9th.  The kindergarten classes will have their parent meetings from 6:00-6:30.  Please bring your school supplies with you so we can get them all sorted and ready to go before the first big (exciting!) day of school.  In addition to the school supplies on the list, you will also need to bring at least 4 Expo brand dry erase markers and several big pink erasers.  I hope you can make it that night...I'm so excited to meet all of the kindergartners in our class and their families! :)
