What's happening right now in kindergarten?

September 2012
September 7--We offically started our Daily Five groups this week, where each child meets in a small group with myself and my assistant as well as practices reading to self, working with words, and listening (and responding) to reading.  The kids did SPECTACULAR with this!!  In other news, our focus was the letter Cc (its name, sounds, and proper formation), the word "like", color words, and numbers 5 and 6. Here is this week's newsletter (a hard copy was also sent home Friday) for more information about what we're currently learning! :)

August 2012
August 31--We are moving onto our third week in kindergarten!  This week our focus was the letter Bb (its name, sounds, and proper formation), the word "the", color words, and numbers 3 and 4.  Here is this week's newsletter (a hard copy was also sent home Friday) for more information about what we're currently learning! :)
August 24--We are moving onto our third week in kindergarten!  This week our focus was the letter Aa (its name, sounds, and proper formation), the word "the", and numbers 1 and 2.  Here is this week's newsletter (a hard copy was also sent home Friday) for more information about what we're currently learning! :)

August 17--Well, we did it! We all survived our first week in kindergarten! :) We also got a new student yesterday which brings our total number of students to 25...and still quite a few more boys than girls. We are all exhausted and I'm sure the kids' brains are just swimming with all of the new things they've learned and been exposed to this week. Kindergarten in this day and age can be daunting at first! We are blessed to have two teaching assistants that take turns helping out in our room--Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Schumacher. They are tremendously helpful and we appreciate them so much already! :)
Here is this week's newsletter (a hard copy was also sent home Friday).

Thank you all SO MUCH for sharing your children with me this year. I have loved spending my days with them this week and look forward to the next nine months with them! :)

August 13--Kindergarten begins!  We will start our year learning classroom and school procedures, each other's names (not only what each child's name is, but how to spell them, write them, and read them), reviewing letters and numbers 0-10, introducing the first two or three components of Daily Five (read to self, listen to reading, and word work), and reading (and discussing!) many MANY books each day!

Click here to check out all of our procedures and expectations we learn the first few days of school...whew!

Here is the August snack calendar.  Please provide enough snacks for 26 children.  Drinks are not necessary.  Thank you! :)
